Whether you are planning a romantic Christmas for two or a large family celebration, candles are a fantastic way to set the festive mood and St Eval candles include a range of items that make great gifts as well as creating the perfect Christmas ambience.
Why do we use candles at Christmas?
The lighting of candles at Christmas has many religious connotations and traditional meanings. From representing the Star of Bethlehem to remembering lost loved ones or lighting the way for weary travellers to show you can offer safe sanctuary, the traditions of candle lighting at Christmas are many and varied.
Candles are popular items in festive Church services and also popular gatherings such as carols by candlelight and let’s not forget that until safer alternatives were invented, candles were also used to light Christmas trees!
Whatever your own Christmas beliefs and traditions, candles are a great way to bring a warm and welcoming ambience to your rooms at this festive time of year.
What are St Eval Candles?
The St Eval Candle Company have been making candles from their base in North Cornwall for over 25 years. Using a combination of traditional and artisan methods and using a unique blend of mineral and vegetable waxes, they have developed a growing range of candles with fragrances inspired by nature. From fragranced candles in a tin that are ready to burn, to versatile tea candles and dinner candles for the festive table, there are a wide selection of products to choose from.

Safety tips when using candles
As the days continue to draw in as we approach Christmas, it’s tempting to get in the festive spirit by lighting a candle or two, but remember to follow a few simple tips to be able to enjoy them safely:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Keep out of the reach of children and pets and place somewhere that they cannot be knocked over
- Keep the wick trimmed to around 1cm to control the flame height and burn time
- Don’t light candles in draughty areas as this can lead to an uneven burn
- Keep burning candles at least 3 inches apart from each other
- Never touch or move a candle whilst it is burning or the wax is liquified
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish candles as it’s the safest way to ensure that hot wax doesn’t splatter onto you, your furniture or furnishings
