Prioritising Self Care This Autumn
Whether you are just back from your summer holiday or have spent the last couple of months juggling work / life / children with little respite, we all need time to take stock and pause as the seasons change.
Autumn is in the air; cost of living news has been worrying for many and schools are back with all the extra work that often involves.
As they remind you on flights... put on your own oxygen masks before helping others. This advice applies just as much in everyday life. We see taking time for ourselves as indulgent, but an investment in you will usually also benefit those around you at work and at home.
Why is self-care important?
It promotes rest and relaxation, which benefits our overall health and wellness, it also promotes healthy relationships. When our self-esteem and self-awareness improves, it has a positive effect on our overall mindset. This, in turn, enables us to care for our friends and loved ones in a way that we might not have been able to do before.
What is self-care?
Self-care is the practice of consciously doing things that preserve or improve your mental or physical health.
It can be a peaceful cup of tea; a walk outside; talking with friends, practising a hobby, a hot bath and magazine, journalling or keeping a gratitude diary to name a few things. It can be solo or with others, inside or out. It does not need to cost a lot of money and the benefits can be priceless.
